Advisory on-road footway - Connel Ferry Station School Transport Improvements
Following an increase in the frequency of the Oban to Glasgow rail service, Argyll and Bute Council decided to use the railway as a medium for a proportion of the school transport service that they provide. On every school day, over 11,000 pupils attend school in Argyll and Bute, almost 3,200 of them travel to and from school on transport organised by the Council.
Bankier Primary School Path, Banknock, Falkirk
This path project has enabled the creation of important link in the local path network in the area around Bankier Primary School, Banknock, Falkirk. The project has opened up key open space for the local community and provided a high quality walking and cycling path, that significantly enhances the core path network in the area. The project, that had strong community support (community, community council, community groups lobbied hard for this path) makes improvements for shared use access in all weathers, something that previously would have been diffcult. The creation of the path now provides easier and safe access to the wider network of paths that the area has to offer.
Bracklinn Bespoke Steel Timber Bridge
Previous bridge over Bracklinn Falls was washed out in floods in 2004 and gorge was completely re-landscaped. Need for a new bridge as both a path link and a viewing platform in its own right came out as a clear priority during core paths community consultations. Access restrictions to site necessitated an innovative approach and partners decided that an unusual design would bring more visitors to the site.

Previous footbridge was closed following a structural inspection, and subsequently determined to be beyond economic repair.
Delivering Upland Path Maintenance in the Cairngorms
The National Trust for Scotland, the Upper Deeside Access Trust (now the Cairngorms Outdoor Access Trust) and Highlands and Islands Enterprise have been very successful in generating funding for, and carrying out upland path improvements works, over the last 10 - 15 years. The path work on the Mar Lodge Estate, the Upper Deeside mountain path network and the Cairngorm Estate has involved programmes of capital works of varying magnitude, including £1.3 million of path work carried out by the National Trust for Scotland.

The project involved the replacement of a 100 year old Harper "swing bridge", which had unfortunately come to the end of its natural life and also was not Equality Act compliant so required to be either substantially upgraded or replaced. Falkirk Council's Engineering Designed Team considered and costed both and the only viable option was to replace the existing bridge with a new bespoke example.
Geocomposite - Lochgilpead
This route will provide a cycling and walking route across the east side of Lochgilphead, specifically from MacIntyre and Macdonald Terraces through to the hospitals, golf course and Blarbuie Community Woodland project. The route links into the wider path network, through to Kilmory Woodland and Home Farm project and Dunholigan travellers site through to the south of Lochgilphead, up to Acnabreac forest and cycle trails, and the NCN route 78 at the Crinan Canal to the north and west. The route was identified as a response to high school relocation and development of the former school site. The route is a proposed core path that has been registered without objection. The route crosses a wet uncultivated field.
